Nenadi Usman urges politicians to emulate Goodluck Jonathan
Senator Nenadi Usman, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, has called on Nigerian politicians to adopt the non-violent political approach demonstrated by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Speaking in Bauchi during the 2026 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue, Usman stated that Nigeria’s democracy survived the 2015 election cycle because Jonathan conceded defeat before the final votes were tallied. She noted that this principled stance prevented the collapse of democracy that many had predicted at the time.
Usman, a former Minister of Finance, urged candidates preparing for the 2027 elections to prioritize national interest over personal power, questioning if current politicians possess the same willingness to make sacrifices to avoid bloodshed. She also asserted that the Labour Party is well-structured for the upcoming general elections due to its ties with the NLC and TUC.
