Nene Macdonald seeks NRL return after St Helens exit

Papua New Guinean international Nene Macdonald has expressed his intention to return to the NRL following his release from St Helens. The 32-year-old outside back, who recently played for Papua New Guinea in a World Cup match against England, confirmed he is currently a free agent.

Macdonald’s time in the Super League included stints with Leigh, Leeds Rhinos, Salford, and St Helens. His recent season at St Helens was hampered by injuries, resulting in only 13 total appearances. While there was speculation regarding a potential move to Castleford Tigers to reunite with former coach Paul Rowley, Macdonald appears to have closed the door on further opportunities in the Super League.

Macdonald noted his desire to play in the NRL and expressed interest in the upcoming PNG Chiefs franchise, though he admitted his age might be a factor in securing a spot with the new team.
