Neoen begins construction of Goyder North Wind Farm in South Australia
Neoen has commenced construction on Stage 1 of the 346 MW Goyder North Wind Farm in the Mid North region of South Australia. Located on the lands of the Ngadjuri Nation near Burra, the project will utilize 48 Vestas V172-7.2 MW wind turbines. Downer has been tasked with the design and construction of the necessary connection and transmission infrastructure, which will link to ElectraNet’s Bundey Substation.
Once operational in 2029, the wind farm is expected to generate 1.3 TWh of renewable energy annually, increasing South Australia’s wind generation by approximately 10%. The project is supported by a 100 MW renewable energy baseload agreement with BHP to power the Olympic Dam, Carrapateena, and Prominent Hill mines. This supply solution will combine wind output with storage from the 454 MW/1,814 MWh Goyder Battery.
Goyder North is a key component of Neoen’s Goyder Renewables Zone, a hybrid hub with a total capacity of 1.2 GW. Together with the Goyder South Wind Farm and Goyder Battery, the zone is expected to generate 2.5 TWh of clean energy annually, enough to power over 500,000 homes. The construction phase is expected to create around 500 jobs, with the broader renewables zone supporting over 1,000 positions during its construction period.
