Neoen secures two 15‑year contracts for Goyder Battery in South Australia

Renewable energy firm Neoen has been awarded two 15‑year capacity service contracts under South Australia's inaugural Firm Energy Reliability Mechanism (FERM) tender. Each contract requires 75 MW of capacity available for an eight‑hour dispatch period, and will be fulfilled by stages 1 and 2 of the Goyder Battery project, which together provide 454 MW and 1,814 MWh of storage. The battery is located in the Mid North region on the traditional lands of the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee, and forms part of the broader Goyder Renewables Zone that also includes wind farms.

The project will use Tesla’s new Megablock battery technology, with UGL (CIMIC Group) serving as balance‑of‑plant contractor. Site works are scheduled to start in August 2026, with commercial operation expected in 2028. Construction is projected to create more than 150 jobs at peak, plus at least 12 permanent roles during operation, and will deliver community and environmental benefits to local First Nations groups. Neoen’s total Australian storage capacity now stands at 2.7 GW / 9.1 GWh. Regional CEO Jean‑Christophe Cheylus thanked the South Australian Government for its support, noting the rapid expansion of battery storage as critical to the state’s clean‑energy future.
