Neoenergia faces R$ 168 million in penalties for service failures in Brazil

The Federal Public Ministry of the Distrito Federal (MPDFT) filed a civil public action against Neoenergia Brasília, seeking R$ 86 million in collective moral damages. The complaint cites frequent power outages, damage to appliances, agricultural losses, long restoration times and poor customer service, describing the situation as a "constant calamity" for residents.

Separately, Brazil's electricity regulator ANEEL imposed a record R$ 82.7 million fine on Neoenergia Coelba, a subsidiary serving Bahia, for irregularities in processing micro‑ and mini‑distributed generation connection requests. The penalties relate to unlawful denial of applications, missed deadlines for budget estimates and inadequate communication with consumers. Both actions target the same parent company for systemic service shortcomings.
