Neogrid Out-of-Stock Index in Brazil hits 12-month low

The Neogrid Out-of-Stock Index, which tracks product availability in Brazilian supermarkets, fell to 10.8% in July 2026. This represents a 0.7 percentage point decrease from June's 11.5% and marks the lowest level for the indicator in 12 months.

Most basic food categories saw improved availability. Notable decreases in out-of-stock rates included eggs (from 27.8% to 22.4%), UHT milk (from 13.8% to 11.4%), coffee (from 9.4% to 7.4%), rice (from 11.0% to 9.5%), and sugar (from 9.4% to 8.5%). Conversely, toilet paper saw an increase in unavailability, rising from 14.1% to 15.9%.

Robson Munhoz, Chief Relationship Strategist at Neogrid, stated that the reduction reflects a recomposition of the supply chain as retailers improve demand forecasting and industry responsiveness. However, he noted that higher availability also reflects more cautious consumer shopping patterns due to inflation, which slows inventory turnover. This occurs alongside a 1.4% annual real drop in retail turnover reported by the ICVA index.
