Neolithic flint axe discovered in Potok Górny

A resident of Potok Górny discovered a flint axe while weeding a tobacco field. Archaeologists suggest the artifact may be approximately 5,000 years old, dating back to the late Neolithic period.

In a broader context regarding such finds, experts note that hikers in Polish mountains can assist archaeologists by reporting unusual stones. Evidence of Stone Age communities has been identified in various locations, including the Carpathians, the Tatra Mountains, and the Bieszczady Mountains. While high-altitude environments often hide traces of prehistoric human activity due to erosion and vegetation, well-trodden tourist paths can sometimes reveal artifacts as foot traffic and weather wear away surface soil.
