Neon to Distribute Luca Guadagnino's OpenAI Biopic 'Artificial
Independent film distributor Neon has secured global distribution rights to Luca Guadagnino's feature film "Artificial" after Amazon MGM dropped the project. The drama recounts the 2023 corporate turmoil at OpenAI, focusing on the brief removal and reinstatement of CEO Sam Altman. Andrew Garfield will portray Altman, with Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk and Monica Barbaro as former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati.
Amazon withdrew from the film despite a reported $40‑$50 million investment, citing internal concerns. Production faced budget overruns, extensive reshoots and other setbacks, leading to the studio’s decision to shelve the movie. Neon plans to release the film in 2026 and position it as an awards‑season contender, aiming for Oscar nominations in 2027.
