Nepal advances major electricity transmission projects

Nepal is advancing major electricity infrastructure projects to stabilize and expand its national power grid. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has completed the Matatirtha–Chobhar section of the 132 kV Thankot–Chapagaun–Bhaktapur Transmission Line Project. This six-kilometer line is scheduled to be energized to help balance electricity demand and supply in the Kathmandu Valley, particularly during the upcoming winter season.

Additionally, the Hetauda-Dhalkebar 400 kV transmission line, which has been stalled for 12 years, is nearing completion. Officials report that 14 of the 16 required towers are finished, with the final two multi-circuit towers expected to be completed within 10 to 15 days. Once operational, this line is intended to serve as a backbone for the national power system, improving supply reliability and potentially increasing electricity exports.
