Nepal and Japan to host cultural festival marking 70 years of diplomacy

A special cultural festival titled ‘Nepal–Japan Festival 2026: Solidarity Through Culture’ will be held at Durbar Marg in Kathmandu on November 22, 2026. The event marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.

Jointly organized by the Government of Nepal, the Embassy of Japan in Nepal, and Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the festival aims to celebrate seven decades of friendship, cooperation, and cultural exchange. A major highlight will be a performance by the renowned Japanese band GODIEGO, marking their return to Nepal more than 40 years after their 1980 concert at Dasharath Stadium.

The festival will feature performances by leading Nepali artists alongside exhibitions related to art, culture, tourism, and commerce from both nations. Organizers stated that any surplus funds generated from the event, after covering necessary expenses, will be donated to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund. Additionally, the event seeks to promote tourism by conveying that Nepal remains open and welcoming to international visitors.
