Nepal Army completes 32 road projects, adding 1,400 km of routes to remote areas

The Nepal Army has completed 32 road projects, constructing a total of 1,411.54 kilometres of roads in some of the country's most challenging terrain, significantly expanding connectivity to remote and strategically important regions. Completed projects include the Kanti Lokpath, Karnali Highway, Jajarkot, Dolpa Road, Besishahar, Chame Road, Kaligandaki Corridor and sections of the Karnali Corridor. Army spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet said the army consistently meets annual construction targets despite limited resources, harsh weather and difficult geography.

The army recently finished a 10.51‑kilometre section of the Khandbari‑Kimathanka Road, which has been handed over to the Department of Roads and is expected to boost local development and future cross‑border trade via Kimathanka. Ongoing major projects are the flagship Karnali Corridor (682 km from Hilsa in Humla to Jamunaha in Banke), the Darchula‑Tinkar Road (a 79 km section with 25% progress) and the Benighat‑Arughat‑Larke Bhanjyang Road (92 km through the Manaslu Conservation Area, 44% complete). These infrastructure efforts aim to improve local development, trade and national connectivity.
