Nepal authorities alert Koshi Province as disaster risks rise

In Nepal, authorities and stakeholders are responding to heightened disaster risks. In Koshi Province, the government has placed all 14 districts on high alert following warnings of continuous heavy to very heavy rain. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development has instructed subordinate offices to prepare equipment and personnel for potential rescue and relief operations, while Biratnagar Metropolitan City is using loudspeaker announcements to warn residents in flood-prone areas.

Simultaneously, child rights advocates in Kathmandu are calling for stronger child-friendly local governance to mitigate risks during emergencies. Organizations including Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal and World Vision International Nepal emphasized that disasters increase children's vulnerability to trafficking, child marriage, labor, and abuse. Stakeholders urged all levels of government to integrate child protection into policy, planning, and budgeting to ensure sustainable safety and psychosocial support for affected families.
