Nepal authorities issue alerts for heavy rain in Syangja and Lumbini
Authorities in Nepal have issued high alerts for Syangja and Lumbini Province due to forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunder, lightning, and windstorms. In Syangja, the District Administration Office warned that a low-pressure system developing over the Andaman Sea could trigger flash floods, landslides, inundation, and riverbank erosion from September 24 through 27.
In Lumbini Province, Chief Minister Chetanaraayan Acharya has appealed to residents to remain vigilant from September 25 to 27. The potential weather conditions pose risks of flooding, landslides, and soil erosion, particularly in urban and Terai areas. The provincial government has instructed local authorities and security agencies to prepare for potential rescue and relief operations.
Residents living near rivers and landslide-prone areas are advised to follow local administration instructions and avoid activities such as fishing, swimming, or collecting firewood near riverbanks. Farmers have also been urged to monitor weather conditions and secure crops during the harvest season.
