Nepal banks post 19.6% profit rise and record Rs 162.9 bn margin loans

Commercial banks in Nepal reported a combined net profit of Rs 64.56 billion for the first 11 months of FY 2025/26, a 19.62% increase over the same period last year. Fourteen of the 20 ‘A’‑class banks posted profit growth, with Nabil Bank leading at Rs 8.49 billion, followed by Global IME Bank. Kumari Bank saw its profit jump to Rs 4.70 billion, while NIC Asia Bank recorded the steepest decline, a 38.81% drop to Rs 507.7 million.

In the same fiscal period, Nepal’s banks and financial institutions issued margin loans worth Rs 162.87 billion, driven by abundant liquidity and flexible policies. Commercial banks supplied more than 85% of these loans, amounting to Rs 139.76 billion. Nabil Bank was the most active lender, disbursing Rs 17.53 billion, and Global IME Bank followed with Rs 14.53 billion. Development banks contributed Rs 19.57 billion, led by Muktinath Development Bank, while finance companies added Rs 3.53 billion, with Manjushree Finance at the forefront.
