Nepal bans Indian film ‘Udta Teer’ over geopolitical content
The Government of Nepal has officially banned the public screening of the upcoming Indian Hindi film ‘Udta Teer’ across the country. The Ministry of Information and Communication issued a notice to the distributor, National Cine Group Nepal, denying permission for the film's exhibition.
Directed by Akash Kaushik and starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, the spy-comedy follows an intelligence agent with memory loss stranded on the India-Pakistan border. The ban was issued under Section 8(3) of the Motion Picture (Production, Exhibition, and Distribution) Act, which allows the Central Film Censor Board to restrict content deemed detrimental to Nepal’s security, peace, or relations with friendly nations.
Reports indicate the decision stems from the film’s anti-Pakistan themes and geopolitical commentary. While the Act allows for films to be approved following necessary modifications or cuts, the current ruling prevents the scheduled Friday release.
