Nepal deploys drones for Bhotekoshi flood rescue and relief

In response to the Bhotekoshi floods in Nepal, various organizations are deploying drone technology to assist in search, rescue, and relief operations. The government has deployed four drones in coordination with the Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN) for aerial mapping, damage assessment, and delivering essential supplies to residents stranded by destroyed roads and bridges.

RAN President Bikash Gurung noted a high demand for high-capacity payload drones capable of carrying 10 to 50 kilograms of food and medicine to isolated communities. While over 100 drone pilots have volunteered, the association stated that the need for heavy-duty payload drones and skilled technical personnel currently exceeds availability.

Additionally, the Nepal Chamber of Commerce has transferred 17 surveillance drones to the Nepal Police headquarters to enhance disaster monitoring and rescue coordination. The Chamber has also previously provided a 50kg payload drone and a surveillance drone to Bidur Municipality, along with 125 power banks to support communication in affected areas. Relief efforts by the Chamber include cash and material aid to districts such as Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading.
