Nepal Finance Minister meets top 20 tax-paying multinationals

Nepal Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle met with representatives from the country’s 20 highest tax-paying multinational companies to discuss investment and regulatory environments.

During the discussions, Ncell Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Dilli Ram Shrestha raised concerns regarding the security of businesspersons, citing the ad hoc arrest of entrepreneurs. Shrestha called for a more predictable tax system, a review of labor laws, and the elimination of differentiated fees for business license renewals.

In response, Minister Wagle stated that the government’s priority is to protect legitimate investments, assets, and profits earned within Nepal. He emphasized that the government aims to move beyond simple tax collection to focus on accelerating production, investment, and reinvestment cycles.

Participating companies included Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd, Ncell Axiata Limited, Aarti Strips, Gorkha Brewery, Himalaya Airlines, Hongshi Shivam Cement, Doosan Energy Company Limited, Dabur Nepal Pvt Ltd, Bottlers Nepal (Terai) Limited, Unilever Nepal Limited, and Asian Paints (Nepal) Pvt Ltd, among others.
