Nepal floods: Photographer survives massive mudslide in Tamure

Italian photographer Stefano Lotumolo and his group survived a devastating flash flood in Nepal’s Tamure region, near the Nepal-China border. Lotumolo, who was traveling toward Mount Kailash for a spiritual journey, described the disaster as a massive wave of mud and debris that swept away entire villages and infrastructure.

Lotumolo reported that his group of eight people, including Valentina Piccinini, had only seconds to escape their vehicle before the flood hit. After spending a night in a mountain shelter, they were rescued by the Nepalese military. The photographer noted the immense scale of the destruction, stating that entire villages, homes, and vehicles were obliterated.

The provisional death toll and missing persons report is severe, with approximately 1,300 people missing, including 540 foreign tourists. The flooding heavily impacted the Tamure, Bhote Koshi, and Rasuwa districts.
