Nepal floods trigger IFRC appeal for 300 million SEK

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched an international appeal for nearly 300 million SEK to support the Nepal Red Cross following devastating floods in northern Nepal.

Estimates suggest approximately 93,000 people have been affected. The flooding has destroyed or severely damaged many homes and washed away several bridges. Damaged roads and disrupted communications have isolated some of the hardest-hit communities, complicating assessment and relief efforts.

Red Cross teams are currently distributing food, water, tarpaulins, blankets, first aid kits, and hygiene supplies. IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain stated that entire villages have been washed away and that needs will increase as the full extent of the destruction becomes clear. The planned 24-month support program includes cash assistance, healthcare, sanitation, mental health support, and family reunification assistance.
