Following devastating glacier-induced floods in Nepal that have claimed over 1,300 lives, two miraculous rescues have been reported.

Chandika Kumari Shresta, a 64-year-old woman, was rescued from the ruins of her four-story home in Betrawati village. Having been trapped under mud and debris for approximately ten to eleven days, her family had already begun mourning rituals. Rescuers located her after hearing cries for help, and she was successfully extracted in a 45-minute operation before being transported to a military hospital in Kathmandu.

In a separate incident, Lu Haitao, a Chinese national, was rescued from a 225-meter long tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydroelectric power plant. He had been trapped for eleven days following the floods. The rescue was a joint operation involving the Nepal Army and South Korean disaster specialists. Haitao is reported to be in stable condition.

Despite these successes, the humanitarian crisis continues, with nearly 5,000 people still listed as missing across the region.
