Nepal highway travel restricted due to landslide and flood risks
Heavy rainfall and the risk of landslides and floods have led to significant transportation restrictions across several major road networks in Nepal.
In Kavrepalanchok, authorities have halted vehicle movement on the BP Highway during the night from 5 pm to 5 am for a four-day period to mitigate accident risks. Similarly, the District Administration Office in Makwanpur has banned night-time travel on the Kanti Highway and the Bhainse-Bhimphedi-Deurali-Kulekhani road section. On these routes, vehicles are restricted to travel between 5 am and 5 pm, with a complete prohibition on movement after 7 pm.
Other major routes, including the Prithvi Highway and Mahendra Highway, have faced disruptions. In Chitwan and Dhading, authorities have implemented full stops on vehicle movement on certain sections of the Prithvi Highway due to landslides. The Department of Tourism has also issued a travel advisory, urging domestic and foreign visitors, including mountaineers and trekkers, to exercise extreme caution due to the ongoing weather volatility.
