Nepal implements Digital Parliament initiative for transparency
Nepal is implementing a ‘Digital Parliament’ initiative to transition parliamentary activities and historical documents into a digital system. The platform aims to increase transparency by allowing the public to access MP profiles, political affiliations, constituency details, bills, legal documents, meeting agendas, and parliamentary records online.
The system is currently in a testing phase. Officials reported that the website has already attracted over 100,000 visitors and received thousands of suggestions for improvement. The initiative includes the Federal Parliament, the House of Representatives, and the National Assembly.
During the trial launch, which included Speaker DP Aryal and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam, Speaker Aryal noted that the digital transition would allow for the study and preservation of Nepal’s parliamentary history for centuries to come. The platform also enables public monitoring of MP attendance; recent data shared via social media highlighted varying participation rates among members of the House of Representatives.
