Nepal implements new electronic system for driving license printing

Nepal has commenced printing driving licenses using the Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System (EDLVRS) to address long-standing delays and service congestion. Under this new system, applicant details are uploaded directly to a security printing facility, which then distributes the licenses to relevant transport service offices via postal service.

In the initial phase, 3,081 licenses for applicants in Madhesh Province have been printed and dispatched. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has allowed provincial governments to manage their own printing by signing independent agreements with the security printing facility. Madhesh Province has already implemented this, and Lumbini Province signed an agreement on September 18 to begin its own printing process. For provinces that have not yet signed individual agreements, the Department of Transport Management will coordinate printing centrally to manage demand.
