Nepal implements transport and security measures for Dashain festivals

Authorities in Nepal are implementing measures to manage the surge of travelers during the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals. The Department of Transport Management announced that advance bus ticket booking will open on Asoj 23 to accommodate the high volume of passengers traveling home.

To facilitate movement, route permit restrictions for long and medium-distance vehicles will be relaxed from Fulpati through the full moon day. During this period, freight transport will prioritize essential goods such as food, medicine, and vegetables, while nonessential transport may be postponed. To prevent ticket scalping and overcharging, fifteen passenger help desks have been established, and official fare lists will be displayed at designated counters.

In Madhesh Province, police are deploying 7,229 personnel across eight districts to ensure security. The plan, effective from Ashoj 29, includes mobile patrols, Quick Response Teams, and increased surveillance at border points to prevent theft, smuggling, and accidents. Dhanusha district will receive the largest deployment of 2,597 officers.
