Nepal military uses drones and helicopters for flood relief

Following devastating floods and a glacier collapse in the Himalayan region near the Nepal-China border in late August, the Nepalese military is conducting large-scale rescue and relief operations. Approximately 1,400 people have died, and over 5,000 remain missing.

To assist those in hard-to-reach areas where roads and bridges have been destroyed, the Nepal Army is utilizing drones to deliver essential supplies, including food, medicine, and fuel. The military is currently operating a fleet of four DJI FlyCart 100 drones, donated by China, which can carry up to 60 kilograms over distances of 3 to 4 kilometers. These drones are also being used to transport the bodies of victims.

In addition to drone deliveries, military personnel have evacuated 4,040 people via helicopter, including 3,757 Nepalese citizens and 283 foreign nationals. Over 9,000 military members, security forces, and police officers have been mobilized to support the affected regions.
