Nepal Minister urges acceptance of Gen Z political agreement
Nepal's Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam has called on all parties to honor the political agreement reached between the previous government and the Gen Z movement. Speaking before the House of Representatives’ Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, Gautam emphasized that the government formally recognized the Gen Z movement as a ‘people’s movement’ following an agreement on December 11, 2025.
Minister Gautam warned that attempting to invalidate this historic political document could lead to renewed social unrest and conflict. She described the agreement as a legal contract between two parties intended to return the country to a peaceful path, noting that consensus and cooperation are essential for national prosperity.
Additionally, the Minister addressed prison reform, stating that the ministry is working to amend the Prison Management Act, 2079. This follows recommendations from a study committee aimed at reforming the prison system and engaging inmates in productive activities.
