Nepal mobilizes security and manages traffic for Dashain festival
As the Dashain festival begins, over 109,000 people have left the Kathmandu Valley to return to their hometowns. According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, these passengers traveled in more than 17,000 vehicles since Ghatasthapana. The exodus includes 41,946 women and 67,690 men, leading to intensified traffic at major exit points such as Nagdhunga, Pharping, and Bhaktapur.
To manage the festive period, Nepal Police has mobilized 50,458 personnel nationwide under a special security plan covering the Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals. The deployment aims to protect citizens and property while preventing crimes such as theft, fraud, and illegal smuggling through open borders. Security forces are distributed across all seven provinces, with the highest numbers deployed in Koshi, Lumbini, and Madhesh provinces.
