Nepal National Assembly forms disaster study committee

Nepal's National Assembly has formed a nine-member special parliamentary committee to investigate the impact of disasters along the Bhotekoshi and Kaligandaki corridors. The committee is tasked with studying disaster preparedness, risk reduction, loss of life and property, rescue operations, and rehabilitation efforts for displaced persons.

Ganesh Parajuli of the Rastriya Swatantra Party was elected unopposed as the chairperson of the committee. The panel is mandated to analyze the effects of climate change and recommend a roadmap for climate justice and infrastructure reconstruction.

The committee intends to conduct scientific analyses through consultations with experts in geology, hydrology, and climate science. It will also seek to develop frameworks for international cooperation regarding disaster risk reduction and the implementation of modern early warning systems.
