Nepal: Opposition warns of protests over government performance

Kulman Ghising, Chair of the Ujyalo Nepal Party and former minister, has threatened street protests if the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP)-led government fails to correct its course. Speaking on Nagarik News, Ghising criticized the administration for failing to deliver tangible results during its first seven months, despite holding a two-thirds parliamentary majority.

Ghising cited rising market prices, shortages of fertilizer for farmers, and disarray in public service delivery as primary concerns. He also noted increasing frustration among youth, citing rising emigration and incidents of self-immolation. Furthermore, he accused the government of lacking teamwork and administrative experience, specifically pointing to unresolved uncertainty regarding civil service service limits as a cause for administrative paralysis.

Separately, the Rastriya Swatantra Party reported that its candidate selection process for local government positions has seen significant interest in executive roles. Party leaders noted that applications for mayoral and rural municipality chairperson positions have outpaced interest in ward-level posts.
