Nepal Parliament Faces Bill Shortage as Cabinet Tables Nine Bills
The Nepalese cabinet approved the tabling of nine bills in a council meeting at Singha Durbar, covering amendments to the Remuneration, Conditions of Service and Facilities of the Authorities of Constitutional Bodies Act, mines and minerals law, the Passport Act and other legislation, and appointed a director general for the money‑laundering investigation unit. Despite this, the House of Representatives, which holds a near two‑thirds majority after the recent election, is struggling to secure enough legislative business. The government had pledged to introduce at least 45 bills in the current fiscal session, but only the nine approved bills have been sent forward, leading to postponed sessions and criticism from lawmakers. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal is urging the prime minister and party leaders to provide a steady flow of proposals to keep the parliament active.
