Nepal Police IGP warns of social disruption from misinformation

Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki stated that the police force is strategically mobilized to maintain peace, order, and social harmony across the country. While the overall security situation is currently reported as normal, Karki noted that certain individuals attempt to disrupt peace through criminal activities.

A significant concern highlighted by the Inspector General is the potential for misinformation, disinformation, deepfakes, and hate speech on social media to disturb relations among citizens. In response, the police have deployed personnel to remain alert to these digital threats.

Karki emphasized that maintaining law and order involves regular coordination between the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Security strategies are developed through inter-agency discussions to ensure a coordinated response to special situations.
