Nepal Rastra Bank eases regulations for flood-affected regions
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced new regulatory measures to assist individuals and institutions affected by severe flooding and landslides in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading.
To ensure financial continuity, the central bank has amended its Unified Directive to allow licensed microfinance institutions to relocate or merge branches in disaster-impacted areas without seeking prior approval. These institutions are required to formally notify the NRB within seven days of any such operational adjustments.
Additionally, the NRB has directed banks and financial institutions to facilitate transactions for customers who have lost essential documents, such as checks, cards, or mobile phones, due to the floods. Banks are permitted to verify customers using signature samples, photographs, and other available details to maintain access to banking services during the recovery period.
