Nepal selects ‘Les Éléphants dans la brume’ for Oscar submission

The film ‘Les Éléphants dans la brume’, directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, explores the culture of the Kinnar community in Nepal. The community represents a third-gender tradition that transcends the male-female binary, holding a paradoxical social position that is simultaneously marginalized and respected for its spiritual authority.

Shah utilizes a cast of non-professional actors from within the Kinnar community to provide an ethnographic and authentic portrayal of their lived experiences. The film features Pushpa Thing Lama in a central role. Nepal has selected this film as its official entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
