Data Hub ransomware attack disrupts Nepal Stock Exchange trading
A ransomware attack targeted Data Hub Pvt. Ltd. on September 20, affecting the infrastructure that hosts the Trading Management System (TMS) for 72 brokerage companies in Nepal. The breach was detected around 5:30 AM, prompting the immediate isolation of affected systems to prevent the malware from spreading to the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) core infrastructure.
Following the incident, NEPSE suspended regular trading sessions. Data Hub reported that all data up to 4:00 AM on the day of the attack remains secure, as the most recent backup was stored in an isolated location away from the main network. Forensic analysis and investigations are currently underway to assess the full impact and implement corrective measures before trading can resume.
