Nepal Telecommunication Authority issues directive to improve mobile services
The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has issued an eight-point directive to telecommunications service providers to improve the quality and reliability of mobile services across the country.
The directive requires companies to address issues such as dropped calls, unreliable networks, and limited high-speed coverage. Service providers must improve customer service by establishing 24-hour complaint resolution mechanisms, potentially utilizing artificial intelligence, and conducting regular satisfaction surveys.
Regarding infrastructure, the NTA has called for a phased expansion of 4G services and instructed providers to prepare plans for 5G deployment in major cities. Companies are also directed to expand broadband reach into rural and industrial areas and update service-area maps quarterly.
Furthermore, the regulator aims to increase tariff transparency. Providers must adopt a scientific, market-oriented tariff system and submit proposals based on "cost-based tariff analysis" to ensure fees reflect technological developments and market demand.
