Nepal-Tibet flash floods leave 633 dead and hundreds missing

Flash floods in the Nepal-Tibet region have resulted in at least 633 deaths, with hundreds more still missing. In China, official news agency Xinhua reports that seven people have died and 554 remain missing as search and rescue teams struggle with disrupted communications.

In Nepal, authorities have rescued or treated 2,301 people, primarily in the Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts. The disaster has severely impacted electrical infrastructure, and the Nepal Independent Power Producers Association reports that 934 individuals associated with 11 damaged hydroelectric power plants are missing.

Nepal has approved the entry of international search and rescue teams following significant international pressure. The International Federation of Red Cross estimates that approximately 93,000 people have been affected by the disaster. Efforts continue to reach isolated areas and restore communication networks.
