Nepal trekking routes disrupted by monsoon floods and road bans

Heavy monsoon rains in Nepal have caused significant disruptions to major trekking routes. In the Manaslu region, flooding from the Therang Khola River has swept away houses and suspension bridges, severing the Manaslu Circuit. Local authorities have advised trekkers to postpone trips, and some climbers are currently using helicopters to reach base camps.

Simultaneously, in the Manang district, residents have implemented a ban on heavy vehicles on the Besisahar-Chame road. This local protest targets construction trucks from hydropower projects, as residents fear the fragile, rain-degraded route could be completely severed if heavy traffic continues. While tourist jeeps and local passenger vehicles are not currently banned, travelers heading to the Annapurna Circuit are advised to confirm transport status and remain flexible with their plans.
