Nepal weather alert: 29 districts at risk of heavy rain and snow
Meteorologist Binod Pokharel has issued a forecast predicting three to four days of rain across Nepal starting Thursday, with the highest risk period expected between Thursday night and Friday night. A low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to move toward Nepal, potentially through Andhra Pradesh, India, reaching the country around October 27.
The heavy rainfall may be intensified by an active westerly weather system and an upper-atmosphere trough. Bagmati Province is particularly at risk, with some areas expected to receive more than 150 millimetres of rain over four days. Other provinces, including Koshi and Gandaki, are also expected to see substantial precipitation.
In total, 29 districts have been identified as being at risk from prolonged rain or intense downpours. Most of these are located in the Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati, and Koshi provinces. Authorities have also issued warnings for the Manang district due to the potential for additional risks following previous avalanche-related fatalities.
