Nepalese communities in Australia hold vigils for flood victims in Nepal

Members of the Nepalese community in Australia held candlelight vigils in Nowra and Parramatta to honor those killed or missing following devastating flash floods in Nepal and Tibet.

In Nowra, over 100 people gathered at Harry Sawkins Park to express solidarity. Community leaders and local state members attended, noting the profound impact of the disaster, which has seen villages wiped out and homes buried under mud. Pradip Ranabhat, president of the Shoalhaven Nepalese community, called for unity amidst the devastation.

A similar vigil took place at Parramatta Square in Sydney, attended by local mayors, members of parliament, and community leaders. The gathering served as a space for residents to reflect on the disaster and express condolences for those lost. The flooding, exacerbated by the monsoon season, has caused significant uncertainty for families waiting for news regarding loved ones in the affected regions.
