Nepali film Elephants in the Fog supports flood relief efforts

The Nepali film ‘Elephants in the Fog’, directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, is utilizing its international presence to support flood relief efforts in Nepal. Following its screening at the Toronto Film Festival, the production has focused on channeling resources to communities devastated by flooding, including the Nuwakot district.

Key members of the production have been personally affected by the disasters; lead actress Puspa Thing Lama and co-producer Prachanda Man Singh Shrestha both have ties to the hardest-hit areas. Fundraising initiatives include a screening in Kathmandu with proceeds directed to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund, as well as collaborations with the Zonta Club and Rotary Clubs to assist children affected by the Bhotekoshi flooding.

Set within a forested Nepalese village, the film explores the lives of the Kinnar community, a group of transgender women who form chosen families based on mutual care. The narrative follows Pirati, a matriarch played by Lama, as she navigates community responsibilities and personal desires. The film’s international distribution partners are also planning a screening in Paris to raise further funds for Nepal’s relief efforts.
