NEPG forecasts significant decline in potato production

The North-West European Potato Group (NEPG) reports a significant contraction in potato production for the 2026 season. Planted areas have decreased by 13.7%, falling from 604,000 hectares last year to 521,500 hectares.

In addition to reduced acreage, yields are expected to be below the five-year average. High temperatures and water deficits during July and August have limited tuber growth, leading to smaller and shorter potatoes. The NEPG anticipates this could be one of the weakest harvests in a decade, potentially making it difficult for producers to meet contractual volumes and requiring adjustments to industry specifications.
