NEPRA approves Rs1.11 per unit electricity price hike in Pakistan

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a fuel cost adjustment that will increase electricity tariffs by Rs1.11 per unit for consumers in Pakistan. This adjustment, based on electricity consumed during August 2026, will be reflected in electricity bills issued in October 2026.

The increase stems from a difference between the actual fuel cost of Rs8.2084 per unit and the reference fuel cost of Rs7.0998 per unit. The adjustment applies to consumers served by K-Electric and former WAPDA distribution companies, as well as those under incremental consumption packages. However, lifeline consumers, electric vehicle charging stations, and certain prepaid electricity consumers are excluded from this charge.

Reports indicate the August fuel price adjustment will impose an additional burden of approximately Rs19 billion on consumers. In a separate regulatory action, NEPRA imposed fines totaling Rs60 million on the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) due to previous inefficiencies and abnormal fuel cost increases.
