NEPSE climbs week on FY 2026/27 start, year‑long losses hit Rs 327 billion
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) rose 2.95% over the week ending 18 July as the new fiscal year FY 2026/27 began. The index opened at 2,600.78 points and closed at 2,677.54, reaching a high of 2,677.64 and a low of 2,546.69. All 13 sector indices moved higher, with non‑life insurance gaining the most (3.76%). Share price of Three Star Hydropower jumped 19.12%, while Upakar Laghubitta fell 11.09%. Daily turnover rose 20.35% to Rs 5.839 billion and market capitalisation increased to Rs 4.600 trillion, giving investors Rs 1.31 billion in capital gains after a week that previously saw Rs 91 billion losses.
In contrast, the NEPSE index declined 7.05% over the fiscal year FY 2025/26, falling 196.98 points from 2,794.78 to 2,597.80 on 16 July. Investors lost roughly Rs 327 billion during the year and market capitalisation slipped to Rs 4.463 trillion from Rs 4.790 trillion. Most sector groups posted losses, with the trading group down 20.41% and non‑life insurance down 15.09%. A few groups recorded gains, notably manufacturing (+37.93%), mutual funds (+7.60%) and hotel‑tourism (+1.80%).
