Nerea Melgosa calls for greater migration competencies in Basque Country

Nerea Melgosa, the Basque Minister for Welfare, Youth, and Demographic Challenge, has called for greater migration competencies for the Basque Country. She emphasized that regional authorities should have more power to manage migration issues effectively.

Melgosa addressed the situation of unaccompanied minors in Ceuta, stating they should remain with their families to avoid increasingly vulnerable conditions. She urged for faster processing of files and improved resources for individualized treatment.

Regarding international relations, Melgosa noted that the Spanish state has agreements with Morocco that guarantee rights for minors. She described the geopolitical situation as a complex issue that cannot be resolved by Basque and other autonomous communities alone, suggesting that a strategic national migration plan is necessary. She also highlighted the need to consider the future integration of foreign workers into the Basque labor market.
