Neretva River environmental threats highlighted in documentary screening

As part of Neretva Day, the documentary film ‘Pusti rijeku neka teče’ (Let the River Flow) was screened in Ulog. Organized by the Center for Environment (CZZS) from Banja Luka and partner organizations, the film tracks the Neretva River from its source to its delta, highlighting its natural beauty, local communities, and the threats facing the region.

Vladimir Topić of the Center for Environment warned that the Neretva is one of the most endangered rivers in Europe. He cited industrial pollution, the climate crisis, and a high concentration of hydroelectric projects as primary threats. According to the Center for Environment, there are 96 hydroelectric energy projects recorded on the entire Neretva basin, with some already built and others awaiting implementation or suspension.
