Neris River ecological research underway by scientists

Scientists from Klaipėda University are conducting ecological research on the Neris River, spanning the area from Mindaugo Bridge to the Vingio Park Bridge. The study aims to assess the impact of potential maintenance works on the water ecosystem, fish habitats, and protected natural values.

Researchers are using specialized equipment and nets to catch, identify, measure, and weigh fish to determine species composition, abundance, and size structure. All captured fish are returned to the river following strict environmental protocols. These field studies are intended to provide more accurate data than existing state databases to ensure responsible planning for future river management.
