Nespresso shifts advertising focus to Dua Lipa amid competitor rivalry

Nespresso is undergoing a brand shift as singer Dua Lipa takes over a primary advertising role, moving long-time ambassador George Clooney to a secondary position. This change aligns with a broader rejuvenation strategy by Nestlé to target younger demographics, specifically through the Vertuo system and flavored coffee varieties.

In a related market development, Migros’s private label, Café Royal, has launched a provocative advertising campaign targeting Nespresso. Using the slogan, “So good that your espresso no longer needs an ‘N’,” the campaign uses subtle branding to challenge the market leader. Nespresso responded to the campaign with humor, stating that being a reference point for others is a natural consequence of having helped create the category.

Additionally, Nespresso has announced it will discontinue its line of paper capsules. Despite previous sustainability efforts, the company cited low demand and issues regarding the durability and handling of paper alternatives. Nestlé stated it remains committed to aluminum as the best material for preserving coffee aroma and will instead focus on simplifying the recycling process for consumers.
