Ness Proiect Europe faces financial crisis amid Ungheni bridge construction

Ness Proiect Europe, the Romanian company responsible for constructing the bridge over the Prut River at Ungheni, has requested preventive concordat proceedings to avoid insolvency. The company is currently facing significant financial difficulties, reporting total debts of approximately 605 million Romanian lei, a 36% increase from the previous year.

The bridge project, intended to connect the Republic of Moldova to Romania’s A8 Union Highway, is experiencing major delays. Currently, only 56% of the work is completed. The request for debt restructuring was filed with the Prahova Tribunal on October 26, 2026, the same day the project was originally scheduled for completion.

Financial data for 2025 indicates a decline in the company’s performance, with turnover dropping by nearly 19% and net profit decreasing by 39% compared to the prior year. The first court hearing regarding the company's financial status is set for November 5.
