Nestlé and Roche CEOs prioritize long-term strategy over stock prices
The CEOs of Nestlé and Roche have stated that they do not intend to manage their respective corporations based on short-term fluctuations in stock prices. During the TV program ‘Bilanz Standpunkte’, Nestlé CEO Philipp Navratil and Roche CEO Thomas Schinecker emphasized that long-term strategy and consistent implementation are the primary drivers of value.
Navratil noted that Nestlé’s recent stock performance reflects its struggle to meet market expectations regarding sales volume, innovation, and sustainable growth. He acknowledged investor skepticism following a decline in Nestlé’s share value, which has lost approximately one-third of its value over the last five years. Navratil stated he does not monitor the share price daily, as his focus remains on strategy, performance measurement, and innovation rather than short-term market maintenance.
Similarly, Schinecker argued that Roche cannot react to daily market movements, particularly given that drug development cycles often exceed ten years. He suggested that if long-term strategic goals are met, stock performance will follow naturally. In contrast to Nestlé, Roche’s shares have seen recent growth, increasing by nearly 9 percent since the beginning of the year.
