Nestlé implements regenerative agriculture to secure supply chains

Nestlé is expanding its use of regenerative agriculture to stabilize its supply chain and meet net-zero greenhouse gas emission targets by 2050. The company is focusing on restoring soil health to improve crop yields, farmer livelihoods, and environmental resilience.

Globally, through the Nescafé Plan, Nestlé has trained over 100,000 farmers and covered more than 400,000 hectares. By 2025, 53% of its green coffee sourcing will come from farms using these practices, surpassing its initial 2030 target. This initiative has contributed to an 18.3% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from coffee production since 2018.

In Spain, Nestlé has invested approximately 12 million euros since 2021 to support 500 farmers and ranchers. This regional effort targets three main areas: tomato production for Solís sauces in Extremadura, cereal crops for infant cereals in Castilla y León and Navarra, and dairy farms in the Cantabrian region. These projects utilize techniques such as crop rotation, minimum tillage, and cover cropping to restore ecosystems.
